In the end, what is left is an overpriced bundle of mini-games, lacking the depth to make them anything more than minor distractions. And the less said about the pointless Life Mode the better. Bomberman was a great idea from the golden age of arcade games. They should have left it there.

There's a whole sweaty mass of kitsch old school Japlish game adulation about Bomberman, and this game panders to it all. Plastic-looking characters, high pitched shouting, cute customization options. If this wasn't a game, it would be an obscure yet expensive limited-edition Japanese snap-together model, quietly gathering dust in some comic shop. [...] The truth is that this would have looked charmingly old-fashioned at the launch of PSone. In 2005, this is the sort of game which belongs on your mobile phone, not on a full blown console. [...] Bomberman is stuck in 1989 and hasn't gone anywhere since.
